Arcadia Stables proudly offers an Equestrian Team for Middle School and High School riders of all levels, beginner to advanced. You do not need to own a horse to participate! The Arcadia Stables Equestrian Team actively participates in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) from October-May. The riders on ASET are given the opportunity to participate in team sanctioned horse shows that are low cost and offer big opportunities.
The Interscholastic Equestrian Association is a national organization modeled after the IHSA program hosted by colleges and universities around the country. High school and Middle school riders compete in shows with the opportunity to compete at regional and the national competitions. Students can win not only prizes but scholarships as well. "The IEA is the perfect stepping stone to collegiate competition. It is also an excellent opportunity for so many riders who do not own a horse to compete at all levels of ability." -IEA Website. The 2008 National Finals had more than $125,000 of scholarship money granted to IEA riders.
At IEA competitions, riders do not supply their own horses or tack. Instead, the horses, saddle and other tack are all provided to the riders at the show. The host team arranges for the horses and equipment. The rider and horse have a short opportunity at orientation prior to the over fences classes, essentially, the horses is new to the rider, and the scores are based upon horsemanship and equitation, not the horse. The rider is not given a this opportunity prior to flat equitation classes. All horses are safe and screened before entry into the show.
ASET practices are mandatory for all active members that plan to show. For members based at Arcadia Stables this is at least once weekly during show season and at least twice monthly in the off season. If you take regular lessons, they count as a practice. For members based outside of Arcadia you must make at least one team practice before you go to a show. Horses are assigned to riders prior to the lessons and the rider is responsible for the grooming, tacking and untacking of the horse.
Membership fees are due prior to the show season. ASET also hosts fundraisers to help raise money to assist in the already low cost travel and show fees, to insure that everyone has an opportunity to show.
